GEF to present third annual report

The Global Environment Facility Small Grants Program United Nations Development Program (GEF SGP UNDP) will present its third annual report to the Government and People of Saint Lucia, in the presence of Governor General Her Excellency Dame Pearlette Louisy, tomorrow.

Other distinguished persons will come from the Diplomatic Corps, bi-lateral and multi-lateral agencies, government ministries and civil society organizations from around Saint Lucia.

The Director General of the OECS, Dr. Didicus Jules, will deliver the feature address.

Highlights of the report for the period January to December 2015 will include a total investment of over EC$3.29 million in projects; employment of 200 persons; income generated of over EC$595,000; and revenue of over EC$337, 000.

Over 793 people were trained in areas which included basic electricity and alternative energy; organic farming; production of organic pesticides; integrated pest management; project management; solar panel installation; small engine repair; and communications to name a few. This investment in 2015, brings the total investment in Saint Lucia during the fifth operational program period which extended over the period October 2012 to December 2015, to over EC$9.18 million.

The official ceremony will be followed by a short exhibition at the Orchid Garden Conference Centre in Union, Castries, where eleven organizations funded by the GEF SGP UNDP will be exhibiting their projects. Among the projects on exhibit will be the now famous micro, mobile, fully-solarized desalination plant and products and services from various groups.

The GEF SGP UNDP takes this opportunity to invite members of the public as well as schools to visit the exhibition from 12 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. to learn about innovative projects in Saint Lucia.
