THE DISASTER VULNERABILITY REDUCTION PROJECT (DVRP) IS INVESTING APPROXIMATELY USD.8.5 MILLION IN CONSTRUCTION OF 5 HURRICANE-RESILIENT COMMUNITY CENTRES IN THE COMMUNITIES OF ROBLOT, PIAYE, ODSAN, BEXON AND BLANCHARD. CONSTRUCTION OF THE ODSAN COMMUNITY CENTRE WAS COMPLETED LATE LAST YEAR.

The Disaster Vulnerability Reduction Project (DVRP) is investing approximately USD.8.5 million in construction of 5 hurricane-resilient community centres in the communities of Roblot, Piaye, Odsan, Bexon and Blanchard. Construction of the Odsan Community Centre was completed late last year. The other 4 are slated for completion later this year.
The DVRP is a collaborative effort of the Government of Saint Lucia and the World Bank at building a more climate resilience country.

Many community centres across the island suffered from age and damage caused by natural disasters. The DVRP sought to construct these new facilities to connect communities and provide climate resilient shelters.

These centres will meet multiple day-to-day social and economic needs. They will serve as human resource development centres, community training facilities and as emergency centres.

A delegation from the World Bank visited the site of the Bexon Community Centre on Wednesday, March 1, 2023, as part of a week-long expedition purposed with viewing several DVRP activities.

This trip was especially meaningful as the DVRP concludes by June of this year.
Management mechanisms will be enacted by the Government of Saint Lucia to ensure proper maintenance of the completed facilities.
